Season 1 Episode 5: Jamie's Farm
In this episode, we're visiting Jamie Kim at Jamie's Farm, at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in Brooklyn, New York, to make their Sweet Potato and Cinnamon Granola.
"This is our rendition of a fall favorite with absolutely no shortcuts. We thinly sliced sweet potatoes and infuse them with honey, cinnamon, and ginger, then gently dry them for a delicate crunch that's packed with sweet and spiced flavor. Tossed with our rich, ghee base of granola, with the depth of warm cinnamon." -Jamie's Farm
I actually had Jamie’s granola before, and was really excited to be able to make it myself in her kitchen! Not only is Jamie talented in the granola game, she’s super sweet as well. Her kitchen is calm, and her staff is just as nice and passionate about what they’re doing. What I especially like about Jamie’s granola, is that there is a savory and hint of salt quality to it, which I think makes such a great balance. The granola really isn’t too sweet at all, just hints, with all natural ingredients (and while there is sugar, it’s truly just the right amount).
They even make savory granolas, which I’ve also tried before, using cheese and truffles (you should definitely give those a try, they’re a game changer!). It’s always so great too knowing that you’re supporting a small business, and one that’s woman-owned too! This particular flavor that we made, their Sweet Potato, is a seasonal flavor so I suggest trying it now, and, possibly stocking up so that you don’t miss is (literally and figuratively) once it’s out of season!
