Season 1 Episode 3: Harlem Shake

In this episode, we're visiting Jelena Pasic and Dardra Coaxum at Harlem Shake, in Harlem in New York City, to make their Classic Harlem Shake (Red Velvet Milkshake).
"From our burgers made with custom blend Pat LaFrieda patties, NY-style, all-beef hot dogs, chicken sandwiches and grilled cheese/melts, to our entrée-size salads, sides and handmade shakes featuring Blue Marble Ice Cream, we use only the highest-quality, all-natural ingredients. Harlem Shake offers an extensive selection of beer and wine including eight draught beers, specializing in local choices." -Harlem Shake

I really enjoyed visiting Harlem Shake! Not only was everyone super nice, but the heart behind the restaurant is honorable. They’re a very community driven business, both employing members of the community as well as giving back to the neighborhood. The food and ingredients are all local (when available and able) and fresh, which you can taste in their menu items.

I got to try their Harlem Shake, which was their Blue Marble soft serve mixed with Red Velvet cake, made from a local bakery. By supporting these other local small businesses, and using their delicious and premium products, it really creates not only a fantastic end result, but strengthens that whole community mission that they’re on. I also had their Impossible Harlem Classic (Impossible plant-based meat with American cheese, onions, pickles and special sauce), which was so good! The bun was pillowy soft, the patty was savory and had that amazing crispness along the edges that you really only get from a flattop, and all the toppings just married the whole burger together.

Not to mention, that they have pieces of Harlem and African American pop culture everywhere you look inside the restaurant! Pro tip: if you go, make sure to check out the bathroom (and wash those hands while you’re there- 20 seconds, you know the drill), which is plastered with old Jet Magazine covers.
