Season 1 Episode 2: Mini Melanie
In this episode, we're visiting Melanie Moss at Mini Melanie, in Flatbush, Brooklyn, in NYC, to make Funfetti Cake Truffles and Ooey Gooey Caramel Cake.
"What’s more fun than rainbow sprinkles and delicious vanilla cake? Celebrate your special day, that special someone, or just treat yourself." -Mini Melanie
"Rich and chocolate-y, this cake is pure indulgence! Enjoy five layers of light chocolate cake, with chocolate buttercream, homemade salted caramel, chocolate ganache, and cookie crumbs." -Mini Melanie
When we were there at the bakery, everyone was busy making and decorating cookies, and frosting a custom cake. It’s so great to see places that are making quality products from scratch, and by hand! The attention to detail and labor of love really come through when you try their different treats. While this bakery isn’t a storefront that you can visit, they do offer local delivery and nationwide shipping.
Now, I know in the episode we didn’t get to cut into the cake and try it on camera, but don’t worry, I have you covered in the photo below! And let me tell you, I ate this entire cake (took me a few sessions, but I successfully did it!), and it was so delicious. The layers aren’t too thick, so you get a really well composed cake to frosting layer ratio, where there’s salted caramel in between as well as on top. It’s not too sweet, and the coffee with the deep richness of the chocolate really balance it out and offer a slight acidity to, well, I guess make it so that I can eat the whole cake without a stomach ache (haha).
