How To Know When Brownies Are Done

In my series of brownie questions, one of the top questions was, “How To Know When Brownies Are Done?”.

Knowing when brownies are done is all about the texture you’re aiming for (fudgy, chewy, or cakey). Here’s how to tell:

The Toothpick Test:

  • For fudgy brownies, insert a toothpick near the center. It should come out with a few moist crumbs, not wet batter.

  • For chewy brownies, look for a slightly cleaner toothpick with just a hint of stickiness.

  • For cakey brownies, the toothpick should come out almost clean.

Visual Cues:

  • The edges will pull away slightly from the sides of the pan.

  • The surface should look set. If the center jiggles when you gently shake the pan, they need more time.

Remember, brownies keep cooking as they cool, so it’s better to pull them out a little early than risk overbaking.
