Will Cake Dry Out In The Fridge? How to Store Cake in the Fridge

In my series of cake questions, another one of the top questions was, “Will Cake Dry Out In The Fridge?”.

Technically, yes, cake can dry out in the fridge if it is not stored properly. To prevent this, it's important to wrap the cake tightly in plastic wrap or store it in an airtight container to help retain moisture. Now, if the cake is completely frosted, the frosting helps seal in moisture, and stored properly, cake can last in the fridge for several days without drying out.

If you’ve cut some slices out of a frosted cake and have exposed insides that aren’t frosted, you have a couple options: if you have leftover frosting, you can add a layer of frosting to the exposed sides to protect the cake from drying out, or, you can take a piece of parchment paper or cling wrap and smooth it along the exposed inside of the cake to act as a barrier from air drying out the inside of the cake.
