Will Cake Stick To Aluminum Foil? Foil-Wrapped Freedom

In my series of cake questions, another one of the top questions was, “Will Cake Stick To Aluminum Foil?”.

Now, this general question doesn’t clarify at what stage someone would want to use aluminum foil for their cake, so, let’s just cover the bases. If this question is in reference to baking a cake, technically the cake won’t really stick to the aluminum, but, you don’t want to use that for baking a cake. Aluminum conducts additional heat, and cakes are too delicate to use additional and uneven heating, to ensure an even bake.

On the other hand, if you plan on storing left over cake in the freezer, aluminum foil is a perfectly good option, as long as you do it right. If you’re planning on freezing slices of frosted cake and want to maintain the integrity of the frosting, you’ll want to slice your cake and place those slices in the freezer on a tray for just about 5-10 minutes to harden up the frosting. Then, you can wrap the cake slices in individual pieces of aluminum foil. For bonus point against freezer burn, wrap that slice of cake in parchment paper before wrapping in foil. If the cake is not frosted, or the state of the frosting doesn’t matter, you can wrap each slice of cake in the foil without the short pre-freeze.
