Are Brownies Gluten Free?

In my series of brownie questions, one of the top questions was, “Are Brownies Gluten Free?”.

Traditional brownies? No, not gluten-free, since they typically contain all-purpose flour, which is loaded with gluten. But don't worry! There are plenty of gluten-free options out there. Substituting regular flour with a gluten-free flour blend can give you the same fudgy goodness without the gluten. You might have to find the blend and brand you like the most, so there might be a little trial and error.

Don’t try to just use any alternative flour, since they’re not all created equal. You won’t be able to sub in almond or coconut flours 1:1, nor is this the best application for them. I personally have found decent results with Bob’s Red Mill 1:1 all purpose gluten free flour. There are also gluten free brownie baking mixes out there too (if you want an easy-button approach!).

So yes, brownies can be gluten-free, it just depends on how you bake (or shop) them.
