Season 2 Bonus Episode: Is This The Best NY Pizza Slice?

In this bonus episode, I go to my guest from Episode 6, Ruby Karp's, favorite pizza shop. She loves Pizza Pete's, on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, so much, that I had to see what all the hype was about. Have you tried Pizza Pete's and what do you think?

This spot is a staple for lots of kids in the neighborhood, so, expect it to look like a school cafeteria around noon. There are only a few tables, so, if sitting is what you had in mind, just be strategic with your timing. Otherwise, get your slice or meal and take it on the go! They work like a well oiled machine here, your food will come out super quick, so it’s great when you’re in a hurry.

Now, for the pizza itself. They’re making it fresh, throughout the day, and while I can’t speak to the quality of the ingredients, I will say it’s a tasty slice. I got their classic cheese slice, and did in fact make me think of a “classic NY slice”. What does that mean? Right, I’ve got you. It’s floppy, it’s greasy, it’s loaded with shredded mozzarella, the sauce is more sweet than tangy, and after one large slice, you’re probably satisfied. You’re not going to see this variation in Italy, it’s an only in NY situation (which, has spread to most of the US as their staple variety of pizza from a non-chain pizza shop).

So, if you find yourself on the Upper West Side, on an off-peak weekday hour, swing by for a slice, sprinkle on some red pepper flakes, and enjoy a classic slice.
