Which Cake Is Traditionally Made For Christmas? Tis The Season

In my series of cake questions, another one of the top questions was, “Which Cake Is Traditionally Made For Christmas?”.

Fruitcake is like the granddaddy of Christmas cakes, full of spices, nuts, and dried fruits, all soaked in booze for that extra holiday cheer. It's dense, moist, and has been a Christmas staple for ages, enjoyed in different ways across the globe. Love it or hate it, fruitcake has a special place at the Christmas table (and I’m one of the few people out there who actually enjoys it).

Another popular Christmas cake, that requires a bit more skill, is a Buche de Noel, or Yule log cake. It’s made to resemble a yule log, typically a chocolate sponge cake filled and rolled with cream or buttercream frosting. The outside of the cake is often decorated to look like a log, complete with chocolate bark-like texture and festive additions like meringue mushrooms, powdered sugar "snow," and marzipan decorations.
